Last Friday, fashion design students showcased their original designs at the annual COD fashion extravaganza. A true delight, ‘Sketches’ boasted a range in construction from separates to knits to gowns.
TV personality from Project Runway, Suede, lectured and chatted with the promising student-designers before the show, in addition to adding a little incentive for this year’s designs.
SUEDEsays patterns and popular sewing brand, Simplicity, teamed up to create the uROCKit Sewing Contest, challenging students to create a look using a SUEDEsays Simplicity pattern. Several designs selected by an expert panel, including Suede himself, are being showcased at Joanne Fabrics in Bloomingdale. The winning design by Anna Loosli features an impeccably constructed cage skirt with decoupaged bodice; attesting to the department’s dedication to teach on the cutting edge of the industry.
