Candidates VY for 6-year terms ON BOARD OF TRUSTEES

Sub head: The college has had Joseph Wozniak and David Carlin on the Board for six years and their positions are now up for grabs. Six candidates are in the running for chairs on the board and elections will begin on April 9.

Ed Agustin

Agustin is a retired architect and vies for the six-year term on the board to help ensure that tax dollars are used to benefit students and wants to work closely with SLC and the faculty association to reach his goals with construction projects.

David Carlin

Carlin has been at the college on the board for the last six years and is running for another six. Carlin is a Senior Advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Illinois State Treasurer and will continue to strengthen the college’s financial situation and ensure that the students are getting a high quality education that meets the needs of the community.

Frank Flores

Flores is a former student of the college, a soldier and Poly Sci major from Roosevelt University. Flores wants to enhance the quality of education at the college by increasing the number of faculty with doctorates and has a target ratio for full time and part time faculty members.

Kathy Hamilton

Hamilton is a businesswoman and a mother and has three key words towards her goals. Accessibility, accountability and relevance all apply to what she wants to bring to the board. She wants education easily accessible, curriculum relevant to the community and educators held accountable for their work.

Mike Lanners

Lanners is a retired professor of stage video and photography from the college and says he will be able to make the much needed connection between the board and the faculty members. Lanners wants to work to help veterans by extending their intensive study courses and overcome the new bills to come for the pension reform.

Joe Wozniak

Wozniak has been at the college on the board for the last six years and is running for another six. Wozniak is a graphics designer and wants to continue to increase energy efficiency within the college and keep taxes low for taxpayers and tuition low for students.

About the author

Jordin Gignac

This is my first year at COD and I want to get my Associates in General Studies, even though, that will probably change within this year. I graduated from Oswego East high school with the class of 2012 and worked my whole senior year at The Edge (My old student newspaper). Some of my interests include, listening to Radiohead, playing my guitar, writing poetry (or hard hitting articles) and being with my family and boyfriend of 2 years. One thing that attracted me to being involved in journalism was my urge to write about people that aren’t always noticed. Set aside from journalism, I enjoy watching films. If I can’t be in a career involving my love of literature, then I would definitely get involved in the filmmaking business. Contact Jordin news@cod.edu 630-942-2153
