Kerri Albert chases down the ball during Saturday’s championship game.

The Lady Chaps saw their season come to a close Saturday as they were defeated by the Harper Hawks 2-1 in the Region IV Championship game.

The Hawks struck first with a goal by midfielder Stephanie Chaires at the 20:55 mark of the first half.

Harper wasted no time adding onto their lead once the second half began.

Midfielder Gabrielle Brosnan fired in another Harper goal barely a minute after the half began, making the score 2-0.

Determined to keep their championship dreams alive, striker Raquel Salinas scored her fifth goal of the year.

Forward Kimberly Gingell, who had previously been playing goalkeeper all game, was credited with the assist.

With just under 20 minutes left to go in the match and momentum from Salinas’ goal, the Chaps seemed poised for another clutch comeback.

However, opportunities came and went and the Chaps just could not score that game-tying goal.

Harper won the championship game 2-1.

With this victory, Harper proved to be one of the biggest challenges for the Chaps over the course of the season.

In spite of a 5-10-0 record, the Hawks beat the Chaps in all three games that they faced each other.
